Revelation: When God Shines Light on What Was Hidden

Revelation is one of our seven spheres of transformation at Red Sea Recovery. Spheres are simply terms to consider when looking over our spiritual land for areas where God may already be working in our life.

So why is revelation one of the seven spheres? Have you ever heard the phrase “You don’t know what you don’t know.”? Sometimes you know areas where you have little to no knowledge. People generally just stay away from tough decisions or responsibility in those areas, because they know they are not qualified.

But that is not what the phrase is talking about. This phrase means that you are completely blind to the existence of information, skills, or concepts you have not yet encountered. Think along the lines of hidden gaps or blind spots. There are entire topics out there that you have never even thought of. Because you do not know they exist, you cannot even ask about them or look for them.

And yes, most of the time it doesn’t matter… but sometimes it does. Sometimes it matters deeply. If you were walking home at night alone and on the next block in a dark alley there was someone waiting to beat you up and rob you, knowing that would be very valuable, wouldn’t it?

Of course it would. Would you change your direction? Would you turn around? Would you warn others? Of course you would. That is when God’s revelation is transformative.  Daniel 2:21b-22 says: 

He gives wisdom to the wise and knowledge to those who have understanding.  He reveals deep and hidden things; He knows what is in the darkness, and light dwells with Him. 

Wisdom and knowledge are gifts of God. Yet, we can play a very big role in that by what we choose to read and study. The revelation of God is different in that it provides answers to deep hidden questions we didn’t even know we had.  

He looks into the darkness of our heart, sees the hidden and secret things that are waiting to beat us up and rob us and shines the light on them. Sometimes the light is only for an instant. Sometimes for maybe a little longer, but once it has been revealed, even if only ever so shortly, we can not unsee it.  

In our mind, we can try to deny it sometimes, especially if it involves someone or something near and dear to our heart, but once God himself chooses to reveal something in our heart to us, our mind can not erase it. We can run from it, but we can’t erase it.  

But when we actually begin to label what we know in our heart to be true even if we never consciously tried to or wanted to see it, the Holy Spirit can then begin leading and guiding in that area, and through obedience we can begin walking in wisdom and knowledge in areas that we didn’t even know we needed wisdom and knowledge.

Don’t dismiss gut instincts that come from nowhere. Don’t dismiss curiosities that seem to rise out of nowhere. If they are leading you away from the darkness of the world and toward the light of Christ, you may be experiencing a revelation from God.

If you can name it for what it is, and seek to be transformed by that acknowledgement and the newfound wisdom and knowledge that can follow it, you may be witnessing God moving in your life by means of revelation.
