Truth and Order in Recovery
2 minute read
As I was thinking about staking a valid claim for recovery, the one word that kept coming to my mind was "order". Our God is a God of order. There is no chaos nor randomness associated with our God. But today, we are so used to there being no absolutes in our society. The world makes us want to believe that "my truth" is my truth, and "your truth" is your truth, and that both of these are equivalent to God's Truth.
This way of thinking is not just outside of Christianity. It has also seeped into the church. Touchy subjects, or subjects that could hurt someone's feelings if we take a bold stand on them, are often allowed to sit in a state of "my or your truth" instead of God's Truth. What this way of thinking outside of the church can do is prevent someone from ever accepting Christ as their Savior. Jesus will meet a person wherever they are, deep in sin or not. What he will not do is negotiate with them on any points of God's Truth at that or any other point.
You must accept Jesus in his fullness. Jesus was the Word of God in the flesh that came to earth to save mankind. Jesus embodies truth, and those who worship God must worship Him in spirit and truth. If a person is unwilling to lay their version of truth down, and take up God's version of Truth for their life, then they can not be saved.
What this way of thinking can do inside the church is two-fold. One, it compromises our witness and testimony of Jesus Christ to the world. And two, it can rob us of the incredible power and privilege of watching this God of order that we serve from moving in order in our life. When God says, "If you do this, then I will do that", that is a promise you can bank on... IF YOU STAY IN THE ORDER THAT GOD DEMANDS.
God himself chooses to be bound by the spiritual order that He has created of conditional and unconditional promises, as well as covenants, that we find in the Bible. As unfathomable as the workings of God are to man, these are a small snippet of order that we can observe and legally claim in our life after we accept Jesus Christ as our Savior, as long as we remain in God's truth in God's order.
